Product Info
Ravintsara is a tall evergreen tree from Madagascar that grows up to 30 meters high. Leaves are steam distilled to give a light yellow essential oil smelling like eucalyptus.
Ravintsara is from the large cinnamomum camphora family indigenous to South East China. When brought to Madagascar from Asia few centuries ago, the tree changed and adapted to the different climate, altitude and soil. This “new” tree developed very different properties, the camphor disappeared turning into 1.8-cineole, and that’s why Ravintsara is so unique. It should not be confused with any other Cinnamomum Camphora trees, mainly because Ravintsara essential oil does not contain any camphor.
In Malagasy, Ravintsara means “the good leaf”. It got its name from the locals using the leaves to boost their immune system and cure a lot of infections and diseases. Due to its 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) high content, Ravintsara essential oil smells like Eucalyptus and can be used to fight respiratory infections.
We can find on the market an essential oil called Ravensara (Ravensara aromatic). As Ravintsara, it’s coming from Madagascar, but that’s the only similarity. Their similar names make the confusion easy, but they have very different scents and properties.
Many uses can be made from Ravintsara essential oil, sometimes it’s even considered as a magical oil. We recommend it mainly for preventing and fighting respiratory infections and disorders. It also has great result in boosting the immune system and eliminating the effects of stress.
Respiratory Infections
The high content of eucalyptol in the Ravintsara brings strong antiviral, antibacterial, anti-catarrhal and mucolytic properties. Anti-catarrhal means it’s very good to remove excess mucus from the body. Also, Ravintsara is effective as a mucolytic because it helps weaken the viscosity of nasal and bronchial mucus and makes it easier to expel. This powerful combination makes it one of the most efficient essential oil to help with respiratory infections and other respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis and otitis.
A great way to use the Ravintsara essential oil is by making a chest rub. It will help soothing the coughing and congestion. Mix 20 drops of Ravintsara, 20 drops of Peppermint, 10 drops of Tea Tree and 10 drops of Thyme with 1/2 a cup of coconut oil. Massage the chest 2 to 3 times a day can help open up the lungs and improve breathing.
Use Ravintsara in a diffuser to clean and purify the air and help with respiratory problems with its fresh eucalyptus scent.
Immune System
When people are tired or stressed, their immune system becomes weaker and makes them more susceptible to colds, flu and other illnesses. Ravintsara has powerful anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties that strengthen the immune system and help the body to be stronger by fighting viral and bacterial attacks.
After you experience the first symptoms of a cold, flu, chest congestion, stuffiness or tickly throat, use Ravintsara essential oil immediately in a diffuser or in a bath. To fight the effects of fatigue simply rub a drop on each wrist.
