Product Info
Tea Tree is an evergreen tree native from Australia. It grows about 10 to 25 feet high and has green leaves and colorful flowers.
Our organic Tea Tree essential oil is steam distilled from the tree leaves. The genus Melaleuca is a member of the Myrtaceae family which has over 200 plant species, the vast majority of which are native to Australia. Tea Tree essential oil has strong antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
It was given its name in 1770 by Captain Cook and was originally brewed as a tea, hence its name. Australia’s Aborigenes used it for its medicinal purposes and boost their immune system. Tea Tree essential oil was part of Australian military first aid kit until the second half of the 20th century.
For the past 70 years many medical studies documented its ability to kill many strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Tea Tree is one of the most extensively researched of all the essential oils with healing properties that are fast-acting and highly-effective.
For Skin Infections
Tea Tree essential oil has nearly 100 compounds. Terpinen-4-ol and alpha terpineol, which are the major components, have powerful antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Those properties make Tea Tree oil very efficient to treat skin infections.
Tea Tree oil’s antifungal properties gives it the ability to fight and/or prevent fungal infections such as candida, jock itch, athlete’s foot, toenail fungus and ringworm. It works best when combined with other antifungal essential oils such as monarda, geranium, rose and patchouli.
Tea tree essential oil also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It make it ideal for use on skin irritations and wounds. Tea Tree oil is gentle enough to be applied topically.
Because Tea Tree’s volatile hydrocarbons are capable of travelling through the air, through the skin’s pores and the mucus membranes, Tea Tree oil can be used aromatically and topically in killing germs, fighting infections and soothing skin conditions.
Tea Tree essential oil is good for treating acne, blisters, burns, insect bites, rashes, warts, cold sores, nail health, dandruff, eczema and psoriasis. It helps heal burns and wounds by encouraging cell regeneration.
Homemade Cosmetics and Cleaners
The amazing antiseptic and antibacterial properties of the Tea Tree essential oil make it efficient for homemade cosmetics and cleaners. It is great for skin health when mixed with oils rich in cineole and limonene to help with skin penetration.
Tea Tree oil can be added to household cleaners to increase purification of the home. Perhaps most importantly, it can be used in a diffuser to kill toxic mold spores in the air. It can also be used in spray cleaners wherever mold may be present in the home as well as laundry detergents.
Because of its antimicrobial properties, Tea Tree oil can kill household bacteria using 5-10 drops in water with white vinegar and 5-10 drops of lemon essential oil for kitchen countertops, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, showers, shower curtains, sinks and toilets.
Immune System
Tea Tree essential oil contains a good amount of monoterpenes. They help to stimulate the body by increasing the production of cortisol and balancing hormones levels. Also, Tea Tree essential oil stimulates the immune system by neutralizing all types of microbes. It encourages sweating, thereby helping the body’s system of eliminating and expelling waste and impurities.
Terpinen-4-ol’s antiviral and antibacterial properties of the Tea Tree help the body fight viruses and bacteria such as flu and colds. When used in a diffuser or as an inhalant, its antimicrobial qualities help with the respiratory system by expelling mucus.
